TwitterPlan - get planning alerts via Twitter

TwitterPlan - get planning alerts via TwitterLichfield District Council has just launched a service that will send you a twitter message when a new planning application is received for your area.  All you need to do is submit your twitter username and postcode.  As the service is powered by PlanningAlerts.com, whenever a planning application is received from any of the supported councils, you will be sent a direct message from their twitter account.

The TwitterPlan service ties in really nicely with Lichfield’s existing planning service which plots applications on a Google Map and provides detailed information about each application.

This isn’t the first time that Lichfield District Council have made innovative use of twitter – recently they also launched a service that will send you a message to remind you to put your bins out for collection.

It’s great to see councils and councillors making innovative use of social media to improve the services they offer.

Thanks to @LittleLaura for the tip off!

UPDATE: You can find out more about the service at Pezholio.co.uk (thanks for @NewcastleCC for the link)
